Albinos ask Sokoto government for monthly allowance

People living with Albinism in Sokoto State have called on the state governor, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, to include them in the monthly allowance being given to the physically challenged in the state.
The Coordinator of the Albino Foundation in the state, Abba Galadima Durbawa, made the appeal, saying they are qualified to be given the allowance as most of them are prone to skin cancer and are discriminated against.

Speaking while making the appeal, Durbawa said:
“We have 115 registered members in the state and most of them are from rural areas. We are faced with financial difficulties and health care concerns, especially as we are prone to skin cancer due to the nature of our body.
The Albino's skin is very expensive to maintain. Sokoto is hot and dry with resultant adverse effect on us.
We want to reach out to members to educate them on self-protection from the sunlight while creating awareness on what Albinism is all about and how best the non-Albinos should relate with persons with Albinism.”

Durbawa further solicited the intervention of the state government to alleviate their suffering, saying the Albino Foundation on its own, was committed to serving its members diligently.
