A man beheaded by ijaw men in warri Delta State



A man, simply identified as Kingsley Tabuku, has been beheaded by some suspected Ijaw youths in Warri, Delta state.

The youths suspected to be residents of Ogbe-Ijoh community in Warri South-West area council of the state were said have burnt three cars and several houses in the locality.

Punch reports that crisis began in the area after an attack on Aladja community in Udu council.

A 14-year old girl was also abducted in the process.

It was gathered that there have been long standing disputes between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities over boundary rights.

A source said the incident happened on Saturday, December 10, after some security operatives in the area quelled the first attack on Aladja community by youths from Isaba.

The source said many people including women and children sustained gunshot wounds.

Confirming the incident, a senior police officer who claimed anonymity said the youth avenged the killing of another Ijaw youth in his farm.

“An Aladja indigene was beheaded in what we believed to be a reprisal attack by Ogbe-Ijoh youths to avenge last Saturday’s killing of an Ijaw youth in his farm. Two houses were razed while three vehicles were burnt down during the attack. The little girl that was kidnapped has been returned by Ijaw youths to Aladja,” the police officer said.

The attack was also confirmed by the area commander of the Warri division, Muhammad Shaba.

However, the Delta state police spokesperson, Andrew Aniamaka, who also confirmed the incident said the head of the victim was taken away by the attackers.

He also said that the abducted teenager has been rescued by security operatives.

Condemning the killing, the spokesperson for the Udu Youth Council Vincent Omoko said the attack is an indication that Ogbe-Ijoh people do not want peace.

He said: “The attack yesterday (Saturday) on Aladja is a confirmation of the fact that the Ogbe-Ijoh people are not out for genuine peace. It is callous and should be condemned by all well-meaning Deltans. This act is barbaric; it signifies that the drum beaters of war are ready to wipe Aladja out.”

“We condemn in its totality the renew attack on the Aladja people of Udu LGA by the Ogbe-Ijoh people of Warri South West LGA.

"The sinister attack launched on the Aladja people yesterday have confirmed the purpose attack on the Aladja people, leading to the beheading of one Mr. Kingsley Tabuku and burning down of two houses and two cars," Omoko said.

Recently, the body of an unidentified woman was found headless in Abakpa area of Enugu state.

The woman, residents said, could have been killed and beheaded by ritual killers.

The police in Enugu also said it had launched an investigation into the woman's killing and details of the investigation would be made public once concluded.
