The Japanese government has sponsored 200 Islamic clerics in the training on how to counter radicalization message of Boko Haram. Vanguard reports that the clerics comprising local Almajiri teachers from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states attended the training themed “De-Radicalization, counter Terrorism and migration in Northern Nigeria.”

Mr Ikponmwosa Omoigiade who is the project coordinator said the training part of a bigger project which is focused on de-radicalization, counter-terrorism and migration in Northern Nigeria and has already been done for the clerics in Borno and Yobe states The coordinator said the “clerics, who comprised imams, scholars and proprietors of Almajiri schools, were trained on how to identify and contain Boko Haram ideologies and extremism in their areas with the aid of manuals by clerics from Islamic Da’awah Centre and Arabic teachers from Ahmadu Bello University.” Omoigiade applauded the cleric for the commitment shown in the training and said he result would be assessed on how affected the areas.

Some of the clerics applauded the initiative and described it as a welcome development that would assist in handling extremist and propagation of the peaceful nature of Islam.
The clerics noted out that Prophet Muhammad cherished peaceful coexistence among and between Muslims and non-Muslims and described them as people who should be attracted to Islam instead of being terrorized.
