NLC directs doctors to call off strike

This follows a meeting with the doctors and government on Wednesday. The National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed striking public sector doctors to call off their three-week old strike.
This follows a meeting with the doctors and government on Wednesday.
Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) are on strike to demand improvement and codification of their conditions of service.
The GMA has already expressed lack of confidence in the ability of the National Labour Commission (NLC) to resolve the impasse between striking doctors and government.
But a statement by the NLC said it met the employer represented by the ministry of health, employment and labour relations, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ghana Health Service on the other hand. The NLC also met the GMA and has directed as follows:
  1. That the GMA takes steps to call off the strike immediately.
  2. Both parties should resume negotiations and report to the commission on Monday, August 25 at 7pm.
  3. Both parties cease all media engagements on the issue
